The stock Android operating system doesn’t include a way to speed up or slow down video you’ve recorded, but third-party apps have rushed in to fill that need.

There are countless apps in the Google Play Store that can change the playback speed of video. Most of them are free, but many require in-app purchases to unlock additional features or even to save the video after you’ve edited it. 

To keep things simple, here is how to speed up or slow down a video with a free app that doesn’t require a purchase to save the completed video clip. 

How to speed up video on Android using FilmoraGo

1. Using the Google Play store, install FilmoraGo on your Android phone.

2. Start FilmoraGo and tap “New Project” at the bottom of the screen.

3. Choose a video from the clips stored on your phone’s photo library and then tap “Import.” Then wait while the video is imported into FilmoraGo’s editor. 

4. After the editor opens, you should see the video in the preview window and in the timeline below. Tap “Trim” in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

5. Tap “Speed” in the toolbar – you might need to swipe to the left to see it.

6. In the pop-up, drag the slider to set the playback speed of the video. You can set any speed from .2x (slow) to 2x (fast). Tap the “Play” button under the preview to see how this affects the video.

7. When you’re satisfied with the result, tap the “Export” button at the top right of the screen. 

8. On the Export Settings page, tap “Export.”
